FREEZER SPACER INSERTION SYSTEM

The SR2 will take 95% of the labor out of putting spacers in pallet loads of boxes.

Cherry's Industrial Equipment has been selling to and calling on meat processing plants and cold storage facilities for many years. We have observed that there has to be a better way than lifting each box of meat and putting it on a different pallet manually, inserting the freezer spacers and then repeating the process when frozen. For years there was no equipment that could do the job, only lots of expensive labor.

The system of inserting spacers was made possible with the Airflow SR2 this equipment allows an operator to insert freezer spacers (of any type) between each layer of boxes without lifting a box. It is capable of handling 25-30 pallet loads per hour. The better the quality of box the faster the time. The SR2 will handle any box 5" or larger in height. Once you have had the machine in operation for 1 day and everybody has accepted it as an aid to their days work, you will find they do not want to be without it. The SR2 will take 95% of the labor out of putting spacers in pallet loads of boxes.

Built for the Industry and it's Harsh Environment

  • One person operation
  • Lifts up to 4,000 lbs
  • Insert or remove spacers in under 60 seconds
  • Eliminates back stain due to bending and lifting
  • Suitable for any size of carton 5" or higher
  • Ground level loading
  • Loading by forklift or hand pallet truck
  • Self contained perimeter guard rails
  • Used in cold storage facilities and tempering plants to insert spacers.
  • Ideal for use in the cold storage and meat processing plants.
  • One year limited warranty
  • The SR2 is manufactured in either a painted finish or stainless steel. The finish does not absorb any dirt, blood, grease or bacteria.

HOW IT WORKS
Step #1
The operation begins with the machine in a vertical position and the TOP TABLE moved out of the way. As the typical pallet is loaded the operator counts the number of layers of boxes and presses a button on the panel to move the numbered ARM to match the appropriate layer. He then lowers the TOP TABLE to within 1" of the top box. The layback cylinders are activated so the machine rotates through 90 degrees. Just prior to the pallet being horizontal the button for the FINGERS is pressed so they clamp onto each layer.
Step #2
Next step is that the ARMS button and TOP TABLE buttons are pressed together so that the layers of boxes open together (one layer does not push the other, they all open together). The gap between each layer of boxes is now open wide enough to allow spacers to be inserted. Once activated the SR2 rotates the load on to one corner of the V shaped table and holds the load within the V, therefore insuring that all boxes are always at a 45 degree angle facing away from the operator. This prevents boxes being pulled onto the operator when removing or installing spacers.
Step #3
The whole process is carried out in reverse so that the pallet finishes up in a vertical position with spacers between each layer in exactly the right position and all the boxes will be square and ready for the blast freezer, as if by magic.

On the S.R.2 all the fingers are individually controlled by rams and the connecting arms are operated by a specifically designed, hydraulic powered scissor that can be positioned to line up with any size carton 5" or higher.

Specifications:

These units are constructed form heavy duty steel plate, membrane supports capable of withstanding the harsh environment of meat processing and freezer operations. The SR2 is hydraulically operated and controlled electrically from a central control box, situated on the side of the equipment. The exact positioning of this control panel is optional.

(1) Power Pack Assembly
  • 6 GPM hydraulic pump
  • 30 gallon oil tank with return filter
  • Integral 0-3000 psi pressure gauge.
  • Dual Main lift Cylinders
  • Arms (speed control)
  • Fingers (relieved & speed control)
  • Scissors (relieved & speed control)
  • Double acting, eyelet anchor points.
  • Eyelet rods (adjustable) pressure rated 5000 psi
  • Electro operated solenoid valves
  • The main pressure circuit is designed to operate at a maximum working pressure of 3000 psi.
  • The average actual working pressure is 1200 psi.
  • The system incorporates a fail safe valve within the control unit, in the event of over pressurization, the whole system will relieve dump to tank
  • On the S.R.2 all the fingers are individually controlled by rams and the connecting arms are operated by a specifically designed, hydraulic powered scissor that can be positioned to line up with any size carton 5" or higher.

When the load is horizontal the hydraulic fingers clamp onto each layer of boxes which then open to reveal a 5 inch gap between each layer for the insertion of a spacer. The equipment is operated in reverse when the spacers are required to be removed.

Typical Questions
Can the SR2 machine handle any depth of box?
Yes any box over 5" deep and the different sizes are altered at the press of a button on the control panel. Care should be taken if the majority of the boxes are 6, 7 or 8" deep. A machine with arms of 6" should be used. The 5" arms will produce a gap of 5" maximum when fully opened and a 6" arm will produce a gap of 6" maximum. The principle being you can only get out of a ram 5" less than the length of the ram when its in its closed position. So if you have a 7" box and the arm is 5" wide the box will over hang 1" at both sides and the next box will be the same, the gap between the arms when open will be 3" which is just enough to cope with normal 1.5" spacer. Consequently the machine with 5" arms will only cope with 5, 6 or 7" boxes using normal spacers and the SR2 with 6" arms will cope with 6, 7,8 or 9" boxes. It may be that one machine will only cope with 95% of your production or if you have a massive range of boxes you may need to purchase two machines, one with 5" arms and one with 6" arms to cope with 100% of production. With all machines the better the box quality the better the finished pallet.

Will the SR2 machine cope with any number of layers?
Yes we work on a maximum number of layers for building the machines. If you tell us the maximum number of layers you get in for freezing is 9 then the machine will cope with any number below this .You just press the button on the control panel to put the correct numbered arm level with the top layer of boxes on the pallet, i.e.; arm 8 level with box layer 8.

Can the SR2 be positioned anywhere on the loading bay?
Yes but it must be installed as per the installation book on a flat horizontal floor.

What is the payback time?
Payback is 6 - 9 months. When operated over an 8 Hour day. When used on a shift system the payback is 3 - 6 months.
